President's Message
SFAPOA – FEB/2009SFAPOA Members,
Happy Chinese New Year! The year of the Ox.
Ox’s are dependable, calm, methodical, patient, hardworking, ambitious, conventional, steady, modest, logical, resolute, and tenacious. They can be stubborn, narrow-minded, materialistic, rigid, and demanding.
What does that all mean for the SFAPOA this year? I don’t know, but we do have an action packed year ahead of us.
The SFAPOA is off to a great start. We have an enthusiastic group of both new and returning station representatives and committee members.
Events we are planning include marching in the Chinese New Years Parade, our 1st Annual SFAPOA Family Picnic, Golf Tournament, Networking Nights, promotional study sessions and the highly anticipated Annual Scholarship and Promotional Dinner.
After speaking with many of you about the SFAPOA, it was clear to me that members thought the association lacked focus and communication. You wanted to know what the SFAPOA did and why information never got to you. “You should have come to the meeting.” used to be the standard answer. Not anymore.
Our answer is to be proactive. We are compiling a master e-mail list to send you updates. You will know more about the SFAPOA than you ever wanted. Our website, www.sfapoa.org, will be updated regularly and we are moving into the twenty-first century full steam ahead. Station reps will get information out to you and of course there are the monthly meetings. Staying connected and active is the key.
I am dedicated to involving our association in more community events. We have already reached out to the Cathay Post, AsianWeek, CAAGE, SFPOA, Chinese Chamber of Commerce, Lions Club, CYC… The SFAPOA will mean something to the community, because we will be seen and heard. In turn, we will have community support. The Cathay Post and the Lion’s Club have individually decided to honor us with the first SFAPOA Officer of the Year Awards
Having said all this, I challenge all of you to grow our membership and to invite potential new members to any of our events. I hope to make this an organization you will be proud to be a member of. I encourage everyone to get on board and enjoy the ride!
